Create a cross-cloud standby instance

This topic describes how to create a cross-cloud standby instance.

Prerequisites

• The primary and standby instances use the Shared Nothing architecture.

• The standby instance must have the same instance type, billing method, database version, and deployment mode as the primary instance.

• The compute specification of the standby instance can be different from that of the primary instance. The minimum node specification of the standby instance must be at least 0.33 times the node specification of the primary instance.

• The storage specification of the standby instance cannot be less than that of the primary instance.

• Cross-cloud primary-standby database creation is supported for database versions V4.x and later. To create multiple standby instances for a primary instance (currently up to 3), the database version must be V4.2.5.4 or later.

• The role of the current OceanBase Cloud account is Project Owner or Project Admin.

Procedure

1. Log in to the OceanBase Cloud console.

2. In the left-side navigation pane, click Instances.

3. In the instance list, find the target instance, click the icon next to the cluster name, and select Create Standby Instance.

4. In the dialog box that appears, select the project for the standby instance and click Create Standby Instance.

5. On the order page, specify your instance information:

   Parameter	Description
   Instance Type	Flagship Edition
   Billing Method	Pay-as-you-go
   Cloud Provider	Select the cloud provider you want to use
   Region	To reduce network latency and improve access speed, we recommend that you select a region close to your business.
   Instance Name	You can customize the standby instance name, which must be 2 to 64 characters long and can only contain Chinese characters, numbers, English letters, underscores, and hyphens.
   Version	Cross-cloud primary-standby database creation is supported for database versions V4.x and later. To create multiple standby instances for a primary instance (currently up to 3), the database version must be V4.2.5.4 or later.
   Deployment Mode	The same as the primary instance
   Zone	You can click View Network Latency to check the network latency in different regions and select an appropriate zone.
   Compute specification	The same as the primary instance
   Storage specification	The same as the primary instance
   Primary-standby Instance Network Synchronization Method	Two synchronization methods are supported: direct network connection and log archiving. Direct Network Connection: The primary instance uses the Log Transport Service to transmit transaction logs (redo logs) directly to the standby instance over the network in real time. The standby instance applies the logs in real time by using the Log Replay Service to synchronize data between the primary and standby instances. This method provides low latency and is suitable for scenarios that require real-time data synchronization. Reliable network connectivity between the primary and standby instances is required. Log Archiving: The primary instance archives transaction logs to an object storage service. The standby instance reads and applies the archived logs to synchronize data between the primary and standby instances. This method has lower network stability requirements and is suitable for unstable cross-cloud networks or scenarios where network transmission costs must be reduced. It has higher latency but lower costs than direct network connection. Fees are incurred for primary-standby log synchronization traffic. View the applicable rates on the billing page. If a standby instance already exists under the current cloud provider, select the same network synchronization method as the existing standby instance.

6. In the Summary section, verify that your parameter configurations and purchase quantity are correct. After verification, agree to the service agreement and click Confirm Order.

7. On the payment page, confirm the order information, select available coupons and a payment method, then click Pay to proceed with the payment.
