This topic provides the instructions on creating an instance through OceanBase Cloud official website.
Procedure
Log in to the OceanBase Cloud console.
In the left-side navigation pane, click Instances.
On the Instances page, click Create Instance.
On the Create Instance page, select the Instance Type as Dedicated (Analytical).
Select a cloud vendor and deployment region. OceanBase Cloud supports the following cloud vendors: AWS, Alibaba Cloud, and Google Cloud.
Select your instance specifications.
ParameterDescriptionInstance Name Set the instance name. The name must be 2 to 64 characters in length and can contain only Chinese characters, digits, uppercase and lowercase letters, underscores, and hyphens. Storage Architecture - Shared Nothing: The computing resources and data storage are in the same node. Data is locally processed on the computing node. This reduces the overheads of data transmission and improves the computing efficiency. The architecture is simple and easy to maintain.
- Shared Storage: This cloud-native architecture separates storage and computing in an instance by using multiple computing nodes and shared storage technology. The separated layers of computing and storage resources allow independent scaling and improve cost-effectiveness and flexibility.
Note
The Shared Storage architecture is currently unavailable and will be supported in the future.
Version The version of OceanBase Database. Deployment Mode - Single-IDC Deployment: All nodes are located within the same zone. This deployment supports both two-node and three-node configurations within a single IDC. If you require this setup, please contact OceanBase technical support.
- Dual-IDC Deployment: Two nodes are deployed across two zones, with a third node deployed in a different zone solely for log synchronization. This node does not provide read/write services. Dual-IDC deployment offers the same availability as multi-IDC deployment but with significantly improved cost efficiency. The dual-IDC deployment option is supported in versions 4.1.0.0 and later.
- Multi-IDC Deployment: Primary and standby nodes are located in different zones, enabling disaster recovery across zones. This deployment comes at no additional cost and by default, all three zones are selected.
Zone Select the target zone. You can select the zone with the lowest network latency by using View Network Latency. - Single-IDC Deployment: Select one zone.
- Dual-IDC Deployment: Select two zones.
- Multi-IDC deployment: Select three zones.
Compute Select the compute specification as needed. Storage Disk Type Select the storage disk type as needed. - When the storage architecture is Shared Nothing, only Alibaba Cloud instances support to select the storage disk type of ESSD PL0 or ESSD PL1.
- When the storage architecture is Shared Storage, instances from multiple cloud vendors support to select the storage disk type of standard or cost-optimized.
Storage The storage specifications vary by compute specifications. Select the storage specification as needed. For more information, see Instance billing. Character Set Select the character set to be used by the database. Supported character sets are: utf8mb4, utf16, gbk, gb18030, and binary. Table Name Case Sensitivity Set whether table names are case-sensitive. Time Zone Set the time zone information. Choose whether to enable Data Encryption. If you choose to enable Data Encryption, you are provided with the following two options for your key:
- Default Key: Use the default encryption method.
- Custom Key: You need to provide the ARN of the KMS key. For more information, refer to KMS key management.
Note
It is not supported to disable data encryption once it is enabled.
Specify the number of instances you want to create in the Quantity section.
In the Summary section on the right, review the configurations and then click Create Instance to complete the purchase.
After the creation is completed, you can navigate back to the Instances page to view the creation progress.
