Instance recycle bin

This topic describes the instance recycle bin feature and how to restore data of released instances.

Background information

The instance recycle bin stores instances that have been released but retain backup files. You can use the instance recycle bin to restore the data of released instances to a new instance.

When a OceanBase instance is released, you can choose one of the following two backup strategies:

  • Retain all existing data backups and log backups when the instance is released. You can view and restore the data of the instance in the instance recycle bin. The backup files of an instance that has entered the instance recycle bin are not deleted. The backup files are continuously charged (free quota is not available for data in the instance recycle bin). In the case of an instance that is released due to arrears, the backup data does not enter the instance recycle bin.

  • Do not retain the backup. After the instance is released, it does not enter the instance recycle bin.

Limitations

  • Only instance-level data restore is supported. Data restore for individual tenants is not supported.

Procedure

  1. Log in to the OceanBase Cloud console.

  2. In the left-side navigation pane, click Instances.

  3. On the instance list page, click View Instance Recycle Bin in the upper-right corner, you can view the following information of deleted instances: instance name/ID, instance type, instance specification, region, version, cloud provider, creation time, and deletion time.

  4. Click Restore in the Actions column of the target instance to restore the data of the released instance. For more information, see Restore data backups in the instance recycle bin. No billing is charged if the instance does not enter the instance recycle bin.

  5. Click the + sign before the name of the target instance to view the primary and archive backup information of the released instance. Click Delete in the Actions column to delete the backup files of the released instance.

Billing for instances in the recycle bin

  • If an instance is released and moved to the recycle bin, the backup data will continue to be billed and free quota is not available. For more information, see Backup and restore billing. If an instance is not moved to the recycle bin, it will not be billed.
  • After an instance is moved out of the recycle bin, that is, after all backup files are deleted, it will no longer be billed.
