When the primary-standby relationship is no longer needed, you can detach the standby instance from the primary, allowing both to operate independently. This action is irreversible. This topic explains the procedure for detaching the standby instance.
Background information
Detaching a standby instance is typically performed in the following scenarios:
To improve high availability and disaster recovery, detaching the primary and standby instances allows the standby instance to take over services quickly if the primary instance fails, minimizing downtime.
To create development and testing environments without impacting production workloads, the standby instance can be detached and turned into an independent primary instance. This allows you to test business logic on the new instance without affecting the original primary instance.
Prerequisites
Before detaching the standby instance, ensure the following conditions are met. After detachment, the primary and standby instances will operate as independent instances.
Both the primary and standby instances are in a running state.
Your account role must be either Project Admin or Instance Admin.
Procedure
Log in to the OceanBase Cloud console.
From the left-side navigation pane, click Instances.
In the list of instances, find the target standby instance, and click the instance name to go to the Overview page of the instance.
In the upper-right corner, click the More icon and select Detach Standby Instance.
In the confirmation dialog, click Detach to complete the process.
