This topic describes the instance recycle bin and how to use it to restore data from released cluster instances that still have backup files.
Background information
The instance recycle bin stores released cluster instances that retain backup files. You can use it to restore data from a released instance to a new cluster.
When you release an OceanBase cluster instance, you can choose one of the following backup strategies:
Retain all existing data backups and associated log backups: You can view and restore the instance data in the instance recycle bin. After an instance enters the recycle bin, its backup files are not deleted. Backups are retained for 7 days by default, continue to incur charges during this period, and do not qualify for free quota. For billing details, see Backup and restore billing. In addition, if an instance is released due to a refund of the remaining balance, a five-day no-reason refund, expiration of a prepaid instance, or release due to overdue postpaid charges, the backup data does not enter the recycle bin. If your account balance is insufficient, the system deletes the related backup data in the instance recycle bin by default.
Do not retain backups: After the instance is released, it does not enter the instance recycle bin.
Limitations
The instance recycle bin currently supports only cluster instances. Other instance types are not supported.
Only instance-level data restore is supported. Data restore for individual tenants is not supported.
Procedure
Log in to the OceanBase Cloud console.
In the left-side navigation pane, click Instances.
In the upper-right corner of the instance list page, click View Instance Recycle Bin.
On the instance recycle bin page, view basic information about released instances. Click the arrow before the target instance name to view backup information for the released instance.
Restore an instance
To restore an instance, click Initiate Recovery in the Actions column of the target instance to restore data from the released cluster instance. For details, see Restore data backups in the instance recycle bin.
Download an instance backup
For instances in the instance recycle bin, you can download backup files to your local device for long-term retention.
In the expanded backup information, click Download in the Actions column of the target backup file.
In the dialog box that appears, select the target backup set and click Generate Download Address.
After the download address is generated, download the backup file by accessing the address.
Delete an instance backup
For instances in the instance recycle bin, you can delete backup files to quickly release backup storage space. You are no longer charged after deletion is complete.
In the expanded backup information, click ··· > Delete in the Actions column of the target backup file.
In the dialog box that appears, confirm the deletion information and click Delete.
