This topic provides the instruction on how to manually switch the primary zone for a tenant through the OceanBase Cloud console.
Background information
OceanBase Database offers multi-zone cluster instances to achieve high availability. Among these zones, the zone that provides read and write services is the primary zone, while the others are designated as read-only or backup zones. In the event of a primary zone failure, OceanBase will automatically switch the primary zone to a new one, ensuring continued availability of database services. Alternatively, you can manually initiate a switch of the primary zone and specify one or more zones as the new primary, dispersing leader replicas randomly across multiple zones to fully utilize machine resources and enhance performance.
Procedure
Log in to the OceanBase Cloud console.
In the left-side navigation pane, click Instances.
On the instance list page, click the name of the target cluster instance to go to the Overview page of the instance.
In the left-side navigation pane, click Tenants.
Choose ... > Switch Primary Zone on the row of the target tenant.

In the pop-up window, select a zone as the new primary zone, and then click OK.

Note
- It is not allowed to perform primary zone switch for tenants under the cluster instances with the single-IDC deployment mode.
- For tenants under the cluster instances with the dual-IDC deployment mode, it is allowed to perform primary zone switch, and you can choose between 1~2 primary zones.
- For tenants under the cluster instances with the multi-IDC deployment mode, it is allowed to perform primary zone switch, and you can choose between 1~3 primary zones.
