This topic describes how to create and manage tenants in the OceanBase Cloud console.

      Concepts

      • Tenant: A tenant is a subset of cluster resources and a logical concept, equivalent to a MySQL or Oracle instance. Tenants are the foundation for database object management and resource management, serving as containers for both database objects and resources (CPU, Memory, IO, etc.). OceanBase Cloud implements resource isolation through tenants, adopting a single-cluster multi-tenant management model where resources and data are isolated between tenants. Each tenant has its own set of computing and storage resources, providing a complete and independent database service. For more information, refer to Multi-tenant architecture.
      • Resource Unit: A resource unit, or simply unit, refers to the available resources (Memory, CPU, and IO, etc.) of a tenant on a node. It is also the basic unit for cluster load balancing. The distribution of resource units on nodes is dynamically adjusted during node online/offline and scaling operations to achieve balanced resource utilization. For more information, refer to Resource management.

      Prerequisites

You have created an instance. For more information, refer to Create an instance.

      Limitations

You can calculate the maximum number of tenants allowed in a single cluster instance using the following rule:

Maximum number of tenants = min(CPU cores per instance node × number of instance nodes, maximum allowed tenants per instance), where:

      • For instances with 3F deployment (3 full-featured nodes), the default maximum number of tenants is 50.
      • For instances with 2F1A deployment (2 full-featured nodes and 1 arbitration node), the default maximum number of tenants is 32.

      Note

      • For information about cluster deployment, refer to Deployment modes.
      • Contact OceanBase Cloud technical support if you need to create more tenants.

      Procedure

      1. Log in to the OceanBase Cloud console.

      2. In the instance list, click the name of the target cluster instance to go to the Overview page of the cluster instance.

      3. In the upper-right corner of the page that appears, click Create Tenant.

      4. Configure the tenant parameters as needed.

        Parameter Description
Tenant Name Set the tenant name. The length must be 2-64 characters and can contain Chinese characters, digits, letters, underscores, and hyphens. Cannot be set to 'sys'.
Compatibility Mode Supports HBase Compatible and Table Compatible modes.
Number of Resource Units OceanBase Cloud manages physical resources by units, which are collections of physical resources such as CPU, memory, storage space, and IOPS. If each unit contains 3 nodes, adding one unit will add resources for 3 nodes.
Unit Specification Set the CPU and memory size for the tenant on a single node.

        Note

        • The sum of CPU and memory for all tenants cannot exceed the cluster instance specifications.
        • Total available resources for a tenant = Resources per node × Number of resource distribution nodes × Number of replicas
Character Set Select the database character set.
Table Name Case Sensitivity Specify whether table names are case-sensitive.
Time Zone Set the time zone information.
Primary Zone Set the primary zone for the tenant. Multiple selections are supported.
Network Settings When selected, a public endpoint will be created automatically.
Remarks (Optional) Remarks cannot exceed 30 characters.
      5. Click Create. You can view the tenant creation progress on the instance list page.
