OceanBase Cloud allows you to add or remove nodes and modify the compute and storage specifications for pay-as-you-go instances, enabling you to scale the instances up or down.
Formula
The minimum value for scaled-down storage is the current usage * 130%, and the minimum value for scaled-up storage is the current order storage size.
Prerequisites
Only project admins can modify the specifications of an instance.
Before you add or remove nodes or adjust the computing or storage specifications, make sure that the system meets the following requirements.
- The instance is in the running state.
- All tenants of the instance are in the running state.
- The instance is charged on a pay-as-you-go basis.
Note
- When you scale down the storage capacity or scale up or down the specifications, second-level interruptions may occur to the connection. We recommend that you perform such operations during off-peak hours to ensure service stability.
- Scaling up the storage capacity or adding or removing nodes will not affect your business. To ensure the stability of your business, it is still recommended that you perform such operations during off-peak hours.
Add or remove nodes
Log in to the OceanBase Cloud console.
In the left-side navigation pane, click Instances.
In the instance list, find the target instance and click Change Configuration in the Actions column.
On the Change Instance Configurations page, click Change Nodes, and select the node distribution configuration for the instance from the drop-down list.
In the right-side Confirm Order section, verify the billing information, select the service agreement, and click Confirm Order.
On the instance list page, you can view the scaling status of the instance. You can initiate a new scaling task only after the current task is completed.
Compute and storage scaling
Note
When the instance has a primary-standby relationship, the resources of the standby instance are verified when the primary instance is scaled. The target configuration must meet the following requirements:
- The standby instance's CPU resource is greater than or equal to 1/3 of the primary instance's CPU resource.
- The standby instance's memory resource is greater than or equal to 1/3 of the primary instance's memory resource.
- The standby instance's storage capacity resource is greater than or equal to the primary instance's storage capacity resource.
Log in to the OceanBase Cloud console.
In the left-side navigation pane, click Instances.
In the instance list, find the target instance and click Change Configuration in the Actions column.
On the Change Instance Configurations page, click Change Compute and Storage.
Specify the Compute and Storage specifications as needed.
Note
- If your instance is V4.x or later, and you want to scale up the compute and storage specifications, you can choose in-place scaling to directly modify the configurations of your existing database instance, such as CPU, memory, and storage, without interrupting database services. However, in-place scaling may pose stability risks and cause temporary latency. Avoid performing in-place scaling during peak hours.
- In the current version, only instances purchased through Alibaba Cloud, Huawei Cloud, and AWS support viewing IOPS information. When you scale down, the maximum IOPS supported by the target configuration must be greater than or equal to the current IOPS upper limit of your tenant.
In the right-side Summary section, verify the billing information, select the service agreement, and click Confirm Order.
On the instance list page, you can view the scaling status of the instance. You can initiate new requests only after the current scaling task is completed.
