SYS_EXTRACT_UTC

Purpose

SYS_EXTRACT_UTC() extracts the UTC from a datetime value with the time zone offset. If the time zone is not specified, the datetime is associated with the time zone of the current session.

Note

UTC stands for Coordinated Universal Time. UTC and GMT (Greenwich Mean Time) are the local time in London, England.

Syntax

SYS_EXTRACT_UTC (datetime_with_timezone)

Parameters

datetime_with_timezone is of the TIMESTAMP WITH TIME ZONE or TIMESTAMP WITH LOCAL TIME ZONE data type.

Return type

The return type is TIMESTAMP.

Examples

The following example extracts the UTC from 2021-11-18 10:08:08.18+08:00.
