This topic describes the error message structure and common error messages.

Error message structure

In the regular error message structure, runtime information can be added to the end of the message, starting with a colon, as shown below:

<error_message>:<extra_info>

The following example shows a closed statement error message, indicating that an exception is thrown during a call of the next method on a ResultSet object.

Common error messages

The following table describes the error messages by ORA ID.

ORA-17010	Closed Resultset	The ResultSet is closed.
ORA-17011	Exhausted Resultset	The ResultSet is exhausted.
ORA-17012	Parameter Type Conflict	A Parameter Type Conflict exception is thrown.
ORA-17014	ResultSet.next was not called	`ResultSet.next` is not called.
ORA-17015	Statement was cancelled	The statement is canceled.
ORA-17016	Statement timed out	The statement timed out.
ORA-17017	Cursor already initialized	The cursor is already initialized.
ORA-17018	Invalid cursor	The specified cursor is invalid.
ORA-17019	Can only describe a query	Can only describe a query.
ORA-17020	Invalid row prefetch	The row prefetch is invalid.
ORA-17021	Missing defines	The definition is missing.
ORA-17022	Missing defines at index	The definition is missing at the index.
ORA-17023	Unsupported feature	The feature is unsupported.
ORA-17024	No data read	No data is read.
ORA-17025	Error in defines.isNull ()	An error occurred in `define.isNull()`.
ORA-17026	Numeric Overflow	A numeric overflow exception is thrown.
ORA-17027	Stream has already been closed	The stream is already closed.
ORA-17028	Can not do new defines until the current ResultSet is closed	Cannot redefine until the current ResultSet is closed.
ORA-17029	setReadOnly: Read-only connections not supported	`setReadOnly`: Read-only connections are not supported.
ORA-17030	READ_COMMITTED and SERIALIZABLE are the only valid transaction levels	Only `READ_COMMITTED` and `SERIALIZABLE` are the valid transaction levels.
ORA-17031	setAutoClose: Only support auto close mode on	`setAutoClose`: Auto close mode can only be set to on.
ORA-17032	cannot set row prefetch to zero	Cannot set row prefetch to zero.
ORA-17033	Malformed SQL92 string at position	Malformed SQL92 string found.

ORA-17035	Character Set Not Supported !!	The specified character set is invalid.
ORA-17036	exception in OracleNumber	An exception in OracleNumber is thrown.
ORA-17037	Fail to convert between UTF8 and UCS2	The conversion between UTF8 and UCS2 is not supported.
ORA-17038	Byte array not long enough	The byte array is not long enough.
ORA-17039	Char array not long enough	The CHAR array is not long enough.
ORA-17040	Sub Protocol must be specified in connection URL	The subprotocol is required in connection URL.
ORA-17041	Missing IN or OUT parameter at index:	Missing `IN` or `OUT` parameter at index.
ORA-17042	Invalid Batch Value	The specified batch value is invalid.
ORA-17043	Invalid stream maximum size	The specified maximum stream size is invalid.
ORA-17044	Internal error: Data array not allocated	Internal error: The data array is not allocated.
ORA-17045	Internal error: Attempt to access bind values beyond the batch value	Internal error: An attempt was made to access bind values beyond the batch value.
ORA-17046	Internal error: Invalid index for data access	Internal error: The specified index for data access is invalid.
ORA-17047	Error in Type Descriptor parse	An error occurred while parsing the descriptor.
ORA-17048	Undefined type	The type is undefined.
ORA-17049	Inconsistent java and sql object types	The Java and SQL object types are inconsistent.
ORA-17050	no such element in vector	No such element exists in vector.
ORA-17051	This API cannot be used for non-UDT types	This API can be used only for UDT types.
ORA-17052	This ref is not valid	The specified `ref` is invalid.
ORA-17053	The size is not valid	The specified size is invalid.
ORA-17054	The LOB locator is not valid	The specified LOB locator is invalid.
ORA-17055	Invalid character encountered in	An invalid character is encountered.
ORA-17056	Non supported character set (add orai18n.jar in your classpath)	Unsupported character set (`orai18n.jar` added to class path).
ORA-17057	Closed LOB	Closed LOB.
ORA-17058	Internal error: Invalid NLS Conversion ratio	Internal error: The specified NLS conversion ratio is invalid.
ORA-17059	Fail to convert to internal representation	Unable to convert to internal representation.
ORA-17060	Fail to construct descriptor	Unable to construct the descriptor.
ORA-17061	Missing descriptor	The descriptor is missing.
ORA-17062	Ref cursor is invalid	The specified Ref cursor is invalid.
ORA-17063	Not in a transaction	Not in transaction.
ORA-17064	Invalid Syntax or Database name is null	The syntax is invalid or the database name is not specified.
ORA-17065	Conversion class is null	The conversion class must be specified.
ORA-17066	Access layer specific implementation needed	Access layer-specific implementation is required.
ORA-17067	Invalid Oracle URL specified	The specified URL is invalid.
ORA-17068	Invalid argument(s) in call	An invalid parameter is found in the call.
ORA-17069	Use explicit XA call	An explicit XA call must be used.
ORA-17070	Data size bigger than max size for this type	The data size exceeds the maximum size for this type.
ORA-17071	Exceeded maximum VARRAY limit	The maximum `VARRAY` limit is exceeded.
ORA-17072	Inserted value too large for column	The value inserted is too large for the column.
ORA-17074	invalid name pattern	The specified name pattern is invalid.
ORA-17075	Invalid operation for forward only resultset	The operation is invalid for a forward-only ResultSet.
ORA-17076	Invalid operation for read only resultset	The operation is invalid for a read-only ResultSet.
ORA-17077	Fail to set REF value	Unable to set the REF value.
ORA-17078	Cannot do the operation as connections are already opened	Unable to do the operation because connections are already opened.
ORA-17079	User credentials doesn't match the existing ones	User credentials do not match the existing ones.
ORA-17080	invalid batch command	The specified batch command is invalid.
ORA-17081	error occurred during batching	An error occurred while batching.
ORA-17082	No current row	No current row found.
ORA-17083	Not on the insert row	Not on inserted row.
ORA-17084	Called on the insert row	Called on inserted row.
ORA-17085	Value conflicts occurs	A value conflict exception is thrown.
ORA-17086	Undefined column value on the insert row	A column value specified on the inserted row is invalid.
ORA-17087	Ignored performance hint: setFetchDirection()	Ignorable performance hint: `setFetchDirection()`.
ORA-17088	Unsupported syntax for requested resultset type and concurrency level	The syntax for the requested result set type and concurrency level is unsupported.
ORA-17089	internal error	An internal error occurred.
ORA-17090	operation not allowed	The operation not allowed.
ORA-17091	Unable to create resultset at the requested type and/or concurrency level	Unable to create a result set of the requested type and/or concurrency level.
ORA-17092	JDBC statements cannot be created or executed at end of call processing	Unable to create or execute JDBC statements at the end of call processing.
ORA-17094	Object type version mismatched	The object type and version do not match.
ORA-17095	Statement cache size has not been set	The statement cache size must be specified.
ORA-17096	Statement Caching cannot be enabled for this logical connection.	Unable to enable statement caching for this logical connection.
ORA-17097	Invalid PL/SQL Index Table element type	The element type of the PL index table is invalid.
ORA-17098	Invalid empty lob operation	The empty LOB operation is invalid.
ORA-17099	Invalid PL Index Table array length	The specified array length of the PL index table is invalid.
ORA-17100	Invalid database Java Object	The specified database Java object is invalid.
ORA-17103	invalid connection type to return via getConnection. Use getJavaSqlConnection instead	The connection type returned by `getConnection` is invalid. Use `getJavaSqlConnection` instead.
ORA-17104	SQL statement to execute cannot be empty or null	The SQL statement to be executed must be specified with a non-null string.
ORA-17105	connection session time zone was not set	The session time zone must be set for the connection.
ORA-17107	invalid proxy type specified	The specified proxy type is invalid.
ORA-17108	No max length specified in defineColumnType	The maximum length is not specified in `defineColumnType`.
ORA-17109	standard Java character encoding not found	The standard Java character encoding was not found.
ORA-17110	execution completed with warning	The statement has been executed, with a warning returned.
ORA-17111	Invalid connection cache TTL timeout specified	The specified connection cache TTL timeout period is invalid.
ORA-17112	Invalid thread interval specified	The specified thread execution interval is invalid.
ORA-17113	Thread interval value is more than the cache timeout value	The thread execution interval is longer than the cache timeout period.
ORA-17114	could not use local transaction commit in a global transaction	Local transaction commits cannot be used in a global transaction.
ORA-17115	could not use local transaction rollback in a global transaction	Local transaction rollback cannot be used in a global transaction.
ORA-17116	could not turn on auto-commit in an active global transaction	Automatic commit cannot be used in an active global transaction.
ORA-17117	could not set savepoint in an active global transaction	Savepoints cannot be set in an active global transaction.
ORA-17118	could not obtain ID for a named Savepoint	The ID of a named savepoint cannot be obtained.
ORA-17119	could not obtain name for an un-named Savepoint	The name of an unnamed savepoint cannot be obtained.
ORA-17120	could not set a Savepoint with auto-commit on	Cannot set a savepoint with automatic commit enabled.
ORA-17121	could not rollback to a Savepoint with auto-commit on	Cannot roll back to a savepoint with automatic commit enabled.

ORA-17125	Improper statement type returned by explicit cache	The explicit cache returned an invalid statement type.
ORA-17126	Fixed Wait timeout elapsed	The fixed wait timeout period has expired.
ORA-17127	Invalid Fixed Wait timeout specified	The fixed wait timeout period specified is invalid.
ORA-17128	SQL string is not Query	The SQL string is not a query.
ORA-17129	SQL string is not a DML Statement	The SQL string is not a DML statement.
ORA-17132	Invalid conversion requested	The requested conversion is invalid.
ORA-17133	UNUSED	`UNUSED`.
ORA-17134	Length of named parameter in SQL exceeded 32 characters	The length of named parameters in the SQL statement exceeds 32 characters.
ORA-17135	Parameter name used in setXXXStream appears more than once in SQL	The parameter name used in `setXXXStream` has appeared more than once in the SQL statement.
ORA-17136	Malformed DATALINK URL, try getString() instead	The format of the datalink URL is invalid. Try using `getString()`.
ORA-17137	Connection Caching Not Enabled or Not a Valid Cache Enabled DataSource	The connection cache is not enabled, or the valid data source of the cache is not enabled.
ORA-17138	Invalid Connection Cache Name. Must be a valid String and Unique	The name of the connection cache is invalid. The string must be valid and unique.
ORA-17139	Invalid Connection Cache Properties	The attribute of the connection cache is invalid.
ORA-17140	Connection Cache with this Cache Name already exists	A connection cache with this name already exists.
ORA-17141	Connection Cache with this Cache Name does not exist	The connection cache with this name does not exist.
ORA-17142	Connection Cache with this Cache Name is Disabled	The connection cache with this name is disabled.
ORA-17143	Invalid or Stale Connection found in the Connection Cache	The connection found in the connection cache is invalid or has expired.
ORA-17144	statement handle not executed	The statement handle is not executed.
ORA-17145	Invalid ONS Event received	The ONS event received is invalid.
ORA-17146	Invalid ONS Event Version received	The version of the ONS event received is invalid.
ORA-17147	Attempt to set a parameter name that does not occur in the SQL	The SQL statement attempted to set an unspecified parameter.
ORA-17149	This is already a proxy session	This is already a proxy session.
ORA-17150	Wrong arguments for proxy session	Parameter error in the proxy session.
ORA-17151	Clob is too large to be stored in a Java String	The CLOB data item is too large to be stored in the Java string.
ORA-17152	This method is only implemented in logical connections	This method is implemented in logical connections only.
ORA-17153	This method is only implemented in physical connections	This method is implemented in physical connections only.
ORA-17156	Invalid array size for End-to-End metrics values	The array size is invalid for end-to-end metrics.
ORA-17157	setString can only process strings of less than 32766 characters	`setString` can process only strings containing less than 32766 characters.
ORA-17158	duration is invalid for this function	Duration is invalid for the function.
ORA-17159	metric value for end-to-end tracing is too long	The metric for executing end-to-end tracing is too long.
ORA-17160	execution context id sequence number out of range	The serial number of the execution context ID is out of range.
ORA-17161	Invalid transaction mode used	The transaction mode used is invalid.
ORA-17162	Unsupported holdability value	The `holdability` value is not supported.
ORA-17163	Can not use getXAConnection() when connection caching is enabled	`getXAConnection()` cannot be used when connection caching is enabled.
ORA-17164	Can not call getXAResource() from physical connection with caching on	Cannot call `getXAResource()` from a physical connection when caching is enabled.
ORA-17165	DBMS_JDBC package not preset in server for this connection	The `DBMS_JDBC` package of the connection does not exist in the server.
ORA-17166	Cannot perform fetch on a PL statement	Failed to fetch the PL statement.
ORA-17167	PKI classes not found. To use 'connect /' functionality, oraclepki.jar must be in the classpath	The PKI class cannot be found. To use the `connect/` feature, `oraclepki.jar` must be in the classpath.
ORA-17168	encountered a problem with the Secret Store. Check the wallet location for the presence of an open wallet (cwallet.sso) and ensure that this wallet contains the correct credentials using the mkstore utility	An error occurs when storing the key. When you open the wallet ( `cwallet.sso`), check the location of the wallet and use the `mkstore` utility to ensure that this wallet contains the correct identity credentials.
ORA-17169	Cannot bind stream to a ScrollableResultSet or UpdatableResultSet	Failed to bind the stream to `ScrollableResultSet` or `UpdatableResultSet`.
ORA-17170	The Namespace cannot be empty	The namespace cannot be empty.
ORA-17171	The attribute length cannot exceed 30 chars	The attribute length cannot exceed 30 characters.
ORA-17172	That value of the attribute cannot exceed 400 chars	The attribute value cannot exceed 400 characters.
ORA-17173	Not all return parameters registered	Not all return parameters have been registered.
ORA-17174	The only supported namespace is CLIENTCONTEXT	The only supported namespace is `CLIENTCONTEXT`.
ORA-17175	Error during remote ONS configuration	An error occurred during remote ONS configuration.
ORA-17259	SQLXML cannot find the XML support jar file in the classpath	SQLXML cannot find an XML `jar` file in the classpath.
ORA-17260	Attempt to read an empty SQLXML	You are attempting to read an empty SQLXML.
ORA-17261	Attempt to read a SQLXML that is not readable	You are attempting to read a non-readable SQLXML.
ORA-17262	Attempt to write a SQLXML that is not writeable	You are attempting to write a non-writable SQLXML.
ORA-17263	SQLXML cannot create a Result of that type	SQLXML cannot create a result of this type.
