On June 26, 2024, the inaugural OceanBase INFINITY tech conference was successfully held in Jakarta, Indonesia. Evan Yang, CEO of OceanBase, announced new strategic partnerships with local resellers to enhance service delivery in the Indonesian market, stating that OceanBase envisions a unified database product strategy that brings customers a single database for the entire lifecycle of their organizations at scale.

CTO Charlie Yang announced that OceanBase has now covered over 80 availability zones in over 30 regions globally, supporting major cloud platforms including Amazon Web Services (AWS), Google Cloud, Alibaba Cloud, Tencent Cloud, and will soon be available on Google Cloud Marketplace.

Built for Mission-Critical Workloads, OceanBase is leaping into International Markets

At the conference, OceanBase CEO Evan Yang stated that OceanBase has been committed to offering top-notch distributed database products and services worldwide since its inception. Over the years, with the rapid development of mobile internet, the company has supported countless complex business scenarios with vast data volumes.

From Taobao to Alipay, from banks, insurers, security brokers, and telecom operators to retailers, from manufacturing to internet industry, OceanBase has continued to iterate and innovate. Meanwhile, the company is gradually expanding its products and services in the international market, continuously enabling customers to effectively resolve their critical business challenges.

According to IDC, global data volume is projected to reach 284.3ZB by 2027, with a CAGR of 22.36%. In the face of such massive amounts of data, a modern data architecture will be required to provide strong support for digital transformation. OceanBase envisions a unified database product strategy that brings customers a single database for the entire lifecycle of their organizations at scale.

Currently, OceanBase can offer customers a service that uses one database to fulfill 80% of their needs, and its availability on multiple infrastructures further ensures efficient and resilient database management across diverse environments.

OceanBase is gaining popularity and recognition in the global market among developers, and has been serving over 1,000 global customers, which demonstrates its technical strength and reliable performance.

OceanBase will soon be available on Google Cloud Marketplace

In August 2022, OceanBase cloud service was globally launched to support clients of different scales to enjoy high-quality enterprise-level database products and services across various regions worldwide.

OceanBase, with its core capabilities including multi-model, multi-tenant, and multi-workload, can meet 80% of the customers' data management requirements with a single database, thus simplifying the technical stacks and building modern data architectures. At the conference, OceanBase CTO Charlie Yang highlighted the practices of DANA, GCash, and Haidilao in upgrading their critical business systems with OceanBase.

DANA, as OceanBase's first client in Indonesia, has nearly 200 million users. After migrating and rebooting with OceanBase, DANA achieved a comprehensive upgrade of the database to a distributed architecture, enabling three-zone hybrid deployment, and achieving "three zeros": zero database failure, zero data loss, and zero data inconsistency, with overall business system availability exceeding 99.99%.

GCash, as the No.1 e-wallet in the Philippines, migrated its core transaction and payment systems to OceanBase. The three-zone high availability architecture can ensure business continuity upon failures in any single zone, with a Recovery Point Objective (RPO) of 0 and a Recovery Time Objective (RTO) of less than 30 seconds, equipping GCash with multi-zone financial-grade disaster recovery. After migrating to OceanBase, GCash achieved a comprehensive upgrade of distributed architecture, leading to a 70% reduction in data storage space, a 40% decrease in database resource costs, and an 80% reduction in data nodes, significantly improving operational efficiency.

One of the world's leading restaurant chains, Haidilao, saw a 45% improvement in real-time analytics performance and a 50% reduction in overall database costs after migrating several core business systems, including membership and inventory management, to OceanBase. OceanBase significantly enhanced the cost-effectiveness and empowered Haidilao to gracefully handle surges in customer traffic to ensure every hotpot served is made from the freshest ingredients.

CTO Charlie Yang announced the latest progress in OceanBase's expansion. Currently, OceanBase covers over 80 available zones in over 30 regions across Asia Pacific, the Middle East, Africa, Europe, and America. It is compatible with major cloud platforms including Amazon Web Services (AWS), Google Cloud, Alibaba Cloud, and Tencent Cloud.

OceanBase is Being Chosen by More and More International Users

At the conference, Norman Sasono, CTO of DANA, and Noudhy Valdryno (Ryno), Director of Public Policy & Government Affairs Indonesia of Ant International, shared their insights at the panel discussion.

"It was only through our partnership with OceanBase that we decided to put in place a modern, unified database to secure our technology resilience and business growth", according to DANA.

Norman stated that whether 100% local deployment or 100% public cloud deployment is not the best choice for DANA. They found that for regular workloads, local deployment is more economical, but during high-traffic peaks, workloads need to be moved to the cloud. Therefore, in 2019, DANA began deploying a hybrid cloud. Facilitated by OceanBase, DANA is equipped with seamless migration and elastic scalability. Especially when high availability is demanded, workloads can be moved to the public cloud flexibly.

Meanwhile, OceanBase also provides backup capabilities, allowing DANA to achieve a three-zone hybrid deployment based on OceanBase's multi-active capabilities. Even if one of the three data centers fails, the other two backups remain available. With such technological infrastructure, DANA achieved zero database failure, zero data loss, and zero data inconsistency, with overall business system availability exceeding 99.99%.

By the end of 2023, DANA's user base was approximately 150 million. Now it has grown to about 180 million. With Indonesia's current population approaching 280 million, DANA's user base continues to grow, indicating significant demand space for digital technology.

With the rapid development of artificial intelligence and digitization, the Indonesian market holds tremendous potential. At the conference, several experts and industry leaders engaged in two fascinating roundtable discussions on topics such as digital trends, cloud, infrastructure, business Intelligence, and more.

As OceanBase CEO Evan Yang stated, "Our partner-centric approach has driven technological advancements and solution innovation through global collaboration with partners from various industries and domains. Today, we have partnered with multiple local organizations to cultivate a thriving international ecosystem filled with digital opportunities. We are looking forward to more collaborative efforts in the future."
