OceanBase Database is available in two editions: Enterprise Edition and Community Edition.
OceanBase Database Enterprise Edition: OceanBase Enterprise Edition is a fully self-developed, enterprise-grade native distributed database. It delivers financial-grade high availability on commodity hardware. Its pioneering "five IDCs across three regions" deployment model sets a new standard for automatic, lossless city-level disaster recovery. It has set new records in the TPC-C benchmark test and supports single clusters of over 1,500 nodes. It features cloud-native architecture, strong consistency, and high compatibility with Oracle and MySQL.
OceanBase Database Community Edition: A standalone distributed integrated database compatible with MySQL, it features a native distributed architecture and supports enterprise-grade capabilities such as financial-grade high availability, transparent horizontal scaling, distributed transactions, multi-tenancy, and syntax compatibility. The OceanBase Database Community Edition kernel is open source and compatible with MySQL. It integrates with virtualization and big data technologies and products, and supports a variety of graphical development tools, O&M monitoring tools, and data migration tools. Additionally, the Community Edition provides open interfaces and rich ecosystem capabilities to help enterprises or individuals better meet customized business needs.
Note
In this topic, a distributed transaction refers to a transaction within an OceanBase cluster. Although the data accessed by such a transaction involves multiple participants, it operates under a single tenant. The XA protocol can ensure the atomicity of cross-database transaction commits. When an application's global transaction accesses data in multiple databases, a distributed transaction manager (an external service independent of OceanBase Database) can use the XA transaction interface to guarantee the atomicity of that global transaction's commit. Such a global transaction is also called an XA transaction.
