OceanBase Database provides the Enterprise Edition and Community Edition.
OceanBase Database Enterprise Edition: OceanBase Database is an enterprise-level native distributed database independently developed by Alibaba Group. It provides financial-grade high availability on ordinary hardware and implements the city-level, automatically lossless disaster recovery standard with five IDCs across three regions for the first time. It also redefines the TPC-C benchmark. In addition, it provides cloud-native, strong-consistency, and high compatibility with Oracle Database and MySQL Database. A single OceanBase cluster can contain up to 1,500 nodes.
OceanBase Database Community Edition: A MySQL-compatible, unified database for single-instance and distributed applications, it has native distributed architecture and provides the enterprise-level capabilities of high availability, horizontal scaling, distributed transactions, multi-tenant, and syntax compatibility. OceanBase Database Community Edition, which is open source, is compatible with MySQL Database and integrates with virtualization and big data technologies and products. It also supports various graphical development tools, operation and maintenance tools, and data migration tools. In addition, it provides open APIs and rich ecosystem capabilities to help enterprises and individuals meet their business needs more efficiently.
Note
Here, a distributed transaction refers to a transaction inside an OceanBase cluster. The transaction involves data across multiple participants, but is limited to one tenant. The XA protocol can address the atomicity of transaction commit in cross-database scenarios. When a global transaction in an application involves data across multiple databases, a distributed transaction manager (a service outside OceanBase Database) can use the XA transaction interface to ensure the atomicity of the global transaction commit. This global transaction is also called an XA transaction.
