Purpose

ASCIISTR() converts a string in any character set to an ASCII string by using the database character set.

Non-ASCII characters are converted into the \xxxx format, where xxxx represents a UTF-16 code unit.

Syntax

ASCIISTR(char)

Parameters

char is a string in any character set.

Return type

This function returns a string.

Examples

The following example converts the string A B C @ Ä Ê Í Õ Ø to an ASCII string.

obclient> SELECT ASCIISTR('A B C @ Ä Ê Í Õ Ø') FROM DUAL;
